Find Rest

3 o'clock wake up callFor six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of Sabbath rest, holy to the LORD
– Exodus 31:15

Last Sunday, we missed church because we were in Vail, CO for our middle daughter’s soccer tournament.  This Sunday she has a game at 10:45 am, right between the two services.

I asked a few women over the age of 65, who I call the “Wise Ones,” what Sundays were like when they were children.  They shared that stores were closed, (all of them, not just Chick-fil-A and Hobby Lobby).  Towns were quiet because few people drove anywhere.  Churches were full, neighbors visited, people prayed, families rested and read God’s word, and children fell into the rhythm.

Today, we have little of this “rest rhythm.”  Our pace of life is consistently busy, often frantic.  I’m calling us out.  I need rest.  How about you?

Living in survival mode puts too many years on our lives, gray hairs on our heads, and wrinkles on our faces.  We long for rest, but staying busy and in control somehow seems unavoidable.

If we don’t wake up and find rest, we’ll eventually crash and burn.  Maybe then we’ll scream, “Help.”

Yes, invite God into every area of your life that is jacked up, wacky, or scary.  He will meet you in the messiness and tell you He loves you.

The Power of Giving God Thanks Will Ignite Your Faith and Change Your World!
