Little By Little

3 o'clock wake up callJesus said, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” –Luke 16:10

Have you ever asked yourself, “What’s God’s will for my life?  What’s my purpose?”
Every Women’s Bible Study I attend or lead, someone always brings up the topic of purpose.  Many times discovering “our divine purpose” is perplexing.

I have several girlfriends who set aside careers in order to stay home with their children while they were school-aged.  Now their kids are off to college and my friends are left wondering what to do with all their quiet hours.

Are you smack dab in the center of God’s will for your life?  If a dart board illustrated your purpose, are you hitting the bulls-eye?  Will we ever know for sure?

Many times we think of living out our purpose as requiring a huge shift from everyday life.  We must sell everything and move to a developing nation to serve the poor, or start an orphanage, or launch a company that will change the world.  (My husband Dan wants to open a taco stand/ ice cream shop in Costa Rica).

Jesus said, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”  What if instead of looking at our “PURPOSE” in all capital letters, as if there’s only one thing we are to accomplish on this earth, we think of ourselves as having many “purposes”, spelled with lower case letters.

Craig Groeschel the head pastor at Life.Church, (they created the YouVersion Bible App) teaches people wrestling to discover their purpose, “You are the sum total of the choices you make.”

What if the small things you do each day declare who you are and prove that you are ready for the next “bigger thing” God has planned for you?  What if…

  • Paying our bills on time, taking out the trash, or changing the diaper (again) = She’s responsible!

  • Spending time with a sick friend, praying for a hurting child, or sending a note of encouragement = She’s loving!

  • Telling the truth in a tough situation, and not spreading rumors = She’s trustworthy!

Jesus continues, in Luke 16:15, to teach that God knows your heart.  What if God is testing your character and preparing you for the next challenges you will face?

God is looking for people who are living lives of integrity and honesty.  Let your day by day decisions align with Jesus’ character.  Be faithful in the small and see how God prepares you for your next purpose.

The Power of Giving God Thanks Will Ignite Your Faith and Change Your World!
