Invite & Ask

3 o'clock wake up callI call on You, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer. – Psalm 17:6

Yesterday, I encouraged you to carve out some time every day to rest.  Whether its a nap or just quiet reflection, resting rejuvenates us.  Sometimes, though, quiet time thoughts drift to whatever task we’re working on and we start to become overwhelmed.  This is especially true when we’re tackling something for the first time, without a road map.  This is a perfect time to invite God into the project and ask others for advice.

Think of all the things we have to do for “the first time”; balance a checkbook, maintain a car, complete a degree, apply for jobs, move to a different city, plan a wedding, buy a house, potty train a baby, drop them off at kindergarten, teach a teen to drive, discipline lovingly, launch kids into the world, build a business, confront a coworker, get out of debt, save for retirement, serve the poor, care for aging parents, plan a memorial service, love God through the pain…

At every twist and turn of life’s journey, we’ll bump into the nextnew thing.”  Walking through uncharted territory with God’s help and the wisdom of others who have “been there and done that,” can make all the difference in the world.

Nehemiah is a great example this.  As Cup Bearer to the King, he had no knowledge of construction when he took on the task of rebuilding the walls around Jerusalem.  Overwhelmed, he asked God to join him in the project and relied on His help every step of the way.  He also relied on others; some for building materials, others for manpower.  It was a team effort.  Because God was on the team and everyone did their part, the project was a huge success!  The wall was rebuilt in an unbelievable 52 days.

So invite God in and reach out to others. Asking for wisdom and guidance is not a sign of weakness, it shows bravery and confidence.

The Power of Giving God Thanks Will Ignite Your Faith and Change Your World!
