Heros

Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. – 1 Timothy 6:11

When you were in grade school, do you remember being asked to write about one of your heroes?  Perhaps you wrote about a famous athlete, or someone who made the history books, or your grandparent if they were adored by you.  If I asked you now, who would you point to as a HERO in your life?

If I had to answer that question, I’d point to Beth Moore.  For the past eleven years, her Bible Studies have directed my faith walk by bringing the Bible to life, pushing me to read extensively, ask hard questions, and make Biblical connections.  As she teaches Biblical truths and courageously shares her personal struggles, it is clear that her faith is strong, yet humble and contagious.

Right now, many groups of women are gathering together to study 2 Timothy through her Entrusted Bible Study.  In both first and second Timothy, Paul can be considered somewhat of a hero to his protégé Timothy.  As the older and wiser teacher, Paul encourages Timothy to live a life that is right in the eyes of the Lord; to be godly in character, strong in faith, and gentle when enduring the hard times.

If you asked me to describe Beth’s character, I’d tell you she is madly in love with Jesus, passionate about sharing God’s truths, loyal to her calling, and not afraid to call the enemy out.

How would you describe your hero’s character?  How do they live their life?  What would they be encouraging you to pursue?

Take a moment and think about that last question. How could God be calling you to stretch or grow to become more like your hero?
